Brief about the course
The Adolescent Health Short Course (AHSC) has been developed for Health and Family Planning Program Managers, Service Providers, Academics and Researchers to help them strengthen their understanding on the concept of adolescent health, enhancing the skills on designing, planning and monitoring of the program.
Department of Public Health and Informatics of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) of Bangladesh, has been commissioned to develop short course on adolescent health in the year 2017. UNICEF and The Embassy of The Kingdom of the Netherlands has been provided technical and financial assistance in this initiative.
BSMMU has followed several steps to develop this course-
- Literature review
- Needs Assessment of the course
- Course Content development
- Pre-field visit to identify sites while implementing the course
- Course content review by Manual Review Committee
- Needs Assessment Survey results and course content sharing through workshop
- Inclusion of survey results and review of course contents by experts after workshop
- Orientation of faculties
- Content and process piloting of the course
- Sharing of piloting of the course in workshop
- Finalization of AHSC
This course was piloted among the participants who have the experience of working with adolescents at facility level, in the community or conducting research with adolescents in 2018. Later that course content was further modified to suit the health and family planning managers, program persons and academics and newly graduated professional or those who are planning to work in adolescent health area. Afterward BSMMU offered 1st batch of AHSC in 2020.
